Abram

Abram (Abe A.) Krahn

1929 –2007

Peacefully on Sunday evening, January 7, 2007 at Boundary Trails Health Centre, Abe A Krahn of Winkler, MB with his family at his side, went to be with his Savior.

Abe Krahn was born July 25, 1929 to Abram J. & Maria Krahn (nee Enns).  He was baptized upon his confession of faith in 1950 at the Winkler Bergthaler Church.  On April 19, 1953 Abe married Mary (nee Hiebert).  They shared 53 years together.

Dad’s early employment was in the carpentry trade.  His work was known for quality and precision.  He used his skills in building various projects throughout his lifetime.  The same care and precision that he demonstrated in carpentry were also seen in how he built relationships.

Dad lived his dream of farming in the Meath District and then later east of Friedensruh.  Farming for Dad began in 1956, with one of the first crops being 23 acres of sunflowers.  The last crop was harvested in the fall of 1989 fulfilling his lifelong ambition.  This was followed by a move to Winkler in August of 1990 where he spent his retirement with Mom.

We as a family could not begin to express all the things Dad has meant to us.  All of us have come to appreciate his sense of humor, his generous spirit and the self control he demonstrated in his words and actions which led to well thought out advice, and teaching.

A recent quote in a family situation at the Krahn household spoken by Dad, was that “Young people are smarter, but older people know more.”  He was a man of few words and a lot of patience.  We as a family would describe our Dad as a man of integrity.   Family relationships were very important to him. Dad’s sincere desire was that our family live in peace with one another.  A hope that Dad expressed was that he would meet us all in Heaven.

Dad was admitted to the hospital on December 4, 2006.  While his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to leave the hospital we were all able to celebrate Christmas with Dad, leaving us lasting memories.  As much as he wanted to stay with us he knew that it was not possible.  We will always miss you.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary (nee Hiebert), 3 daughters, Marlene and John Toews (Crystal and her daughter Devin, Corrina, Scott), Loretta and Harold Friesen (Jenesa, Nathan and his fiancée Rosemarie, Corey, Shannon), Leona Krahn (Riley) and her fiancée Mark Czoch; 1 son, Alvin and Tammy Krahn (Trenton and his fiancée Melany, Mikaela, Jordana, Travis) all of Winkler.  He is also survived by his 3 brothers, John and Sophie, Bill and Irene, Ike and Ann and their families as well as mom’s side of the family.

He was predeceased by his parents Abram J. and Maria Krahn.

Funeral service held on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at 2:00 pm at Winkler Bergthaler Church with Rev. Peter Penner and Ben Pauls officiating.  Interment followed at Winkler Cemetery.

We as a family would like to thank all the staff at BTHC for the excellent care Dad received.  The caring support shown by family and friends in prayers, visits, food, flowers, and words of encouragement are much appreciated.

If friends so desire donations may be made to Boundary Trails Health Centre Palliative Care Unit, Box 2000, Winkler, MB R6W 1H8.

Wiebe Funeral Home, Winkler in care of arrangements.
